Hi,
I am trying to automate the creation of PowerBI Workspaces.
I am able to create a new workspace:
$body = '{"name": "' + $PowerBIWorkspaceName + '"}'
$PowerBIWorkspace = Invoke-PowerBIRestMethod -Url 'groups' -Method POST -Body $body | ConvertFrom-Json
But I would like to set the description of the Workspace as well.
If I read Groups - Create Group - REST API (Power BI Power BI REST APIs) | Microsoft Docs - I can only see name in the request.
And I can't figure out if I can set the description after the creation.
Any ideas?

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be possible to achieve with a service principal.
When changing description this API is used:
Admin - Groups UpdateGroupAsAdmin - REST API (Power BI Power BI REST APIs) | Microsoft Docs
And that API is not supported when using a service principal:

Hi
I hope this REST API supports only Name as a body parameter for workspace and no placeholder for description. We need to add them manually.
Thanks
Hari
Hi Hari,
Okay, so it's not possible to for example set the description after the Workspace has been created?
/Kim
You can add the description manually by going to Power BI service workspace.
Thanks
Hari
Yes I know, but I am trying to automate PowerBI workspaces 🙂
