Hey All;
I'm hoping for an assist with this. Recently, our main report using a SQL direct query started showing an invalid connection error on the web portal only when loading the report.
Power BI desktop is not showing this error... and more importantly, when I test the connection in the dataset, it shows the gateway online and connected.
This just start a couple of weeks ago with no change to the service.
Thoughts?
Hi Gumberculeez,
Did you get this resolved? I am experiencing the same issue.
Is the gateway updated? We saw a similar issue which got fixed when we updated the gateway. This happened even though our previous gateway was only a month old, since we have a process to update our gateways every month.
This is a good call, a no go for me however.
This was my process this morning:
- I removed the reports and dataset from the web portal
- Updated the gateway to 3000.63.4 (Oct)
- Opened the report in PowerBI deaktop (all works great)
- Published the report and dataset to the portal
- Same result : /. The dataset doesn't error and the report formatting loads, just no content appears.
Really it a loss for why this is happening. Thinking I'm going to build a quick test report from the same database and see if that works. Maybe there is something wrong with the report itself.
EDIT: OK... this is interesting... and makes me sad all at the same time. A test report with the same database works. This points to something with that report itself that's broken... which sucks. About 100 hours of labor in that report :(.
Not sure if this will work. I had a somewhat similar case where a report seemed to be corrupt somehow (would not open in power bi service and throw errors). However when i renamed the file and published the same PBIx, it worked !! so the pbix in itself was not corrupt.
A quick check worth trying 🙂 It saved me weeks of work
@Gumberculeez
Did you change database password recently?
OR
Go to web portal click on the dataset settings and check for Datasource Crendentails is set to OAUTH2 and privacy level is set to organisation
even if this does not work try to repubish the report -->this should be your last option
Sadly, none of this worked : /
and no password change occured. again, all works fine on the in PowerBI desktop... just not in the cloud.
