Intermittent problems with scheduled refresh Salesforce credential invalid

We have a scheduled refresh for a dataset that includes Salesforce data source

From time to time the refresh fails with "The credentials provided for the Salesforce source are invalid".  Nothing on the Salesforce user has changed, but from one day to the next, Power BI reports that the Salesforce credentials are invalid.

I have seen similar issue before. And I don't think it's the credential issue since another refresh completed after that failure. I suggest you use Fiddler to trace the request from Power BI Service to see detail information.

      Thanks, v-sihou-msft,

I agree - it doesn't seem to be a credentials issue.  We moved the refresh to another time slot and it's been fine for 2 days, so it could be a time-out issue reported as credentials.  If it starts happening again we will ty to get to the bottom using Fiddler.

      Kind regards

  • Hi InaNortje were you able to find a solution? As a workaround, maybe you can try to test your connection with a 3rd party connector, which pulls data directly from the SF objects API. I've tried windsor.ai, supermetrics and funnel.io. I stayed with windsor because it is much cheaper so just to let you know other options. In case you wonder, to make the connection first search for the Salesforce connector in the data sources list:

After that, just grant access to your Salesforce account using your credentials, then on preview and destination page you will see a preview of your Salesforce fields:

There just select the fields you need. It is also compatible with custom fields and custom objects, so you'll be able to export them through windsor.  Finally, just select PBI as your data destination and finally just copy and paste the url on PBI --> Get Data --> Web --> Paste the url.

    Hi InaNortje

Since a later refresh succeeded without changing the credentials, this was not a persistent credential problem. However, the thread does not confirm whether the failure came from Salesforce, Power BI Service, authentication, or the network.

I would review the detailed Refresh History and compare the failed and successful attempts.

Power BI Connector for Salesforce provides an alternative token-based source and can be configured for scheduled and incremental refresh, although it cannot eliminate every transient service failure.
