Inherit permissions from the Power BI gatway account for users who publish reports - SSAS

Hi All,

I have a question related with user rights permission to publish Power BI reports.

The user with permission to publish Power BI reports can choose 2 options:

- live (direct query)

- import

If this developer has no access to all data and row level security is on on the cube - can he get all data using import mode?

Is it possible to inherit permissions from the Power BI gateway (SSAS) service account somehow?

@VcarolineV

You can not do that. When using import mode, you need to provide credentials to check current accessing user with Roles defined in Tabular model, then return corresponding records with row filters applied, since you  don't have access to all data, you cannot retrieve the whole model.

I would suggestion you to create a support ticket see if there is a workaround for your requirement.

Thanks!

I'm just starting my experience with Power BI, I have full access to SSAS DB, I'm just worried about other users before granting them permissions;)

It seems that the import mode allows you to see all dimension values, but if the user uses the measure it works according RLS.
