Increase the memory capacity for PPU workspace ("Visual Has Exceeded The Available Resources" error)

Hi. In a Pro workspace I have a report with one matrix visual that is showing a lot of data (> 14 measures, shown in monthly breakdown). Due to the extensive DAX, it unsurprisingly failed to load with more data being loaded. The error shown is as following:

Visual Has Exceeded The Available Resources

I talked to the business user and due to specific reasons, we cannot change the layout of the matrix visual to make the load lower (for example, splitting 14 measures into 3 different matrix visuals). Therefore our option is to either redo all the DAX (which will take a lot of time), or upgrade it to Premium workspace. And the user is willing to bear the cost, so we are looking at the Premium option now.

But before we proceed, I want to confirm if upgrading to Premium does help to prevent the error, as they have more resource allocated. So I created a PPU workspace to try first (in 60 days trial period).

I would like to check with everyone, how to I manage the resource in a PPU workspace? I tried looking at the "Capacity settings", but there's nothing to set here.

Hi @Anonymous ,

Unfortunately, there is no way to manage the resource in a PPU workspace as it is a virtual capacity.

The capacity is automatically scaled up or down based on the usage of the workspace.

However, you can monitor the resource usage of your PPU workspace by going to the "Usage metrics" page in the workspace settings. This page provides information on the workspace's resource usage, such as memory and CPU usage, as well as query and data refresh performance.

If you find that you are still experiencing issues with resource limitations in your PPU workspace, you may want to consider upgrading to a dedicated capacity Premium workspace, which provides more resources and greater control over capacity management.
