I have a report that used 2 data sources, one of them is a folder(local network) that contains all the images (let's call it LocPic) and another one is a SQL server dataset.
I added the Locpic data source( as a folder) in the gateway setting but I am facing this error :
The credentials provided for the folder source are invalid.
Is there any opinion on how should I solve this issue?
I used a sysadmin user. And also the user is an admin on power BI.
Solved! Go to Solution.
I sent this issue to the Power BI support team, around 2 months ago. They did several tests trough the online meeting but it did not work. Today I could map the data source folder and refresh it by service.
I believe they solved something in their end. But another suggestion is updating the service. ( I am using the oct2019, R2). My issue solved before the update!
Hi @Anonymous,
can you confirm a few things:
- Where are you getting the (invalid credentials) error? When adding the entry to the gateway? Or at refreshing it in the service?
- If the error is not in the gateway entry is the connection succesfully added?
- Did you add a Folder source in the gateway? And did you also import a Folder in Power BI Desktop? If one of them is a file you should change them accordingly
Hi,
Thank you for the response.
when I added Locpic data source as a folder source to the gateway I had this issue. Then I chose to skip test connection and it added,
But I can not refresh it obviously.
And if I remove the checkmark for the Skip test connection I can not apply because of the same issue.
In the desktop version, I chose the privacy level for the folder public and everything is fine and I am able to refresh it.
The issue is with the gateway.
Thank you
@Anonymous thanks for clarifying.
What credentials (username and password) are you using, as they are not working? Are you using your own account? And did you set the Privacy level setting also to Public in the gateway?
What is the exact error message you see when clicking on Show details?
I used one of the usernames and pass that we use for all of the Power BI reports but it doesn't work. then the admin gave me(my own username) the full permission on that Local folder but it is not working.
about this question "And did you set the Privacy level setting also to Public in the gateway?" Yes.
the error message is Invalid connection credential.
The credentials provided for the Folder source are invalid.
Yes. I used the domain names.
Yes. it works on the desktop.
Hi @Anonymous ,
Could you please try to check if te LocPic can be accessed by the machine running the Gateway? Does the isuse also happened when try to add other data sources?
Best regards,
Could you please try to check if the LocPic can be accessed by the machine running the Gateway? Yes, it is a shared folder. we have access to it from that server.
Does the issue also happen when trying to add other data sources? As I explained before, I have other SQL data source and they are work fine. The issue is jut for the folder data source.
