I can't Connect PostgresSQL db with PBI SERVICE ( Web version ) remote certificate invalid

Hi everyone,

I am currently experiencing some issues connecting my Power BI Service with my Postgres SQL database hosted on an EC2 Ubuntu machine on AWS.

While the database works fine on PGAdmin and also works with ODBC Power BI desktop, I am unable to use Power BI Dataflows due to the following error message: "the remote certificate is invalid"

I suspect that the issue might be related to encryption settings, but I'm not sure how to proceed., and I am using the correct username and password to authenticate to the database. is there a way to upload certificate to PBI Service?

If anyone has any experience with this issue, I would appreciate your help and suggestions. Thank you in advance!

Hi @walidb 

I think you need to ensure that the SSL Cert is installed on the Power BI Gateway server.

It appears that you also do not have a Gateway server installed and as far as I am aware you will need to have the data refreshed via a Power BI Gatway.

Thank you for the clarification. Just to confirm, even if the database is accessible online through PGAdmin or PBI Desktop ODBC using my own machine & i want to connect the PBI SERVICE (Web ) to the DB, would I still require a data gateway?

Additionally, if a data gateway is needed, does it have to be installed on a Windows VM? As the database server and most servers in the cluster are Ubuntu machines.

Lastly, if we install the gateway on a Windows machine and only run it for 1-2 hours every 2 days, and schedule the PBI Dataflow refresh for the same time, would it work?
