How to use param filter for the published App URL?

Hello Team,

I have a pbix file and its deployed in the workspace. If i open the report then the url looks like below,

https://app.powerbi.com/groups/b76a3267-8f32-423c-8395-a9710091824e/reports/7f4a9b23-8584-4203-ab89-abs57e5f1219/ReportSection2e42f592b0d7789d22a0?experience=power-bi
url appender:
&filter=apps_editor_mapping%2Fuser%20eq%20%273456d6dg-6237-4753-9d78-0b86c376232c%27

Then i can filter by default while accessing the url as a link it shows only for those users data. Working fine.

When i convert this report as App then url looks like below,
https://app.powerbi.com/Redirect?action=OpenApp&appId=b76a3267-8f32-423c-8395-a9710091824e&ctid=0ae51e19-06c8-4e4b-ff6d-458ee87610f4&experience=power-bi
url appender:
&filter=apps_editor_mapping%2Fuser%20eq%20%273456d6dg-6237-4753-9d78-0b86c376232c%27

If i add the above url appender for the App link its not working for me.

The reason is even in feature if i want to do publish of new .pbix file in the workspace and updating the app means final app url should not change.

How can i achieve this when App url is not accepting the url params.?

Thanks and Regards,

Siva

  • Hi. The url filtering is for the URL of the report. The second link you are showing is the App redirection to add or invite people to the report, but it's not the report link.

Add the filter to the app report link. It looks like this:

    https://app.powerbi.com/groups/me/apps/4c263b46-cafc-4853-b0da-f7d7b2270a2f/reports/6f33bffb-cada-436c-be5a-0119b8aeef79/ReportSectionb05868bf440676cea00c?experience=power-bi&filter...

    I hope that helps

  • No. The URL shouldn't change. If you are replacing the report when publishing to the workspace. Then it's just updating changes. The id of the report remains the same. That means de URL for the report is the same. If you are updating the app (no unpublish and publish again) then the app id stays the same. The URL is a combination of app id and report id, that means the URL is the same.

    I hope that make sense

      Hi ibarrau ,

thank you for your reply and time for my issue.

      https://app.powerbi.com/groups/me/apps/4c263b46-cafc-4853-b0da-f7d7b2270a2f/reports/6f33bffb-cada-436c-be5a-0119b8aeef79/ReportSectionb05868bf440676cea00c?experience=power-bi&filter...

yes, you are corect. After a month if i publish the updated version the same project file .pbix. It stays in the worspace. By clicking the updateApp button in top i can select the newly created .pbix file and Deploy it.
Now the power bi url changes, ami correct?

But the App remains same always.

In this case i have to chnage the new power bi access url and also old params need to be aded in many applications. this is my problem.

      Thank you.
