How to test RLS when Power BI is connected live to Analysis Services?

Hi,

I have recently moved our clients Power BI Reports to Azure Analysis Services with Live connection. Only problem and this is a major issue for customer here is that now "View As" option for testing RLS is greyed out and we cannot check that in Power BI.

What are the ways we can test RLS when a report is connected to Analysis Services?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

In my scenario, RLS is implemented and that configuration is done through Visual Studio. What I'm looking for is an easy way to test this RLS like we do in Power BI.

I cannot test this RLS in Power BI as it is live connected to Analysis Services. So, please suggest what will be ideal way here to test this out apart from SSMS if possible?

Right, but I do not want to test RLS in Visual studio or SSMS. Is there an easy way to do that?

No,

create a "testuser"

1. assign this user to a role

2. login as "testuser" using a different tool then SSMS

3. take screenshots that are documenting your test results and log out

repeat with step 1 and another role

there is a simple answer to your question: no - it's not possible to test RLS without implementing RLS.

In your scenario RLS is not implemented in Power BI, it is implemented at the data source (ie in the SSAS cube).  You need to test it there.
