How to succefully create an auto-update rule in PowerBi (cloud) when you only have an api-key

I have an data-set wich I want to auto-refreh via the Scheduled refresh Option.

But the only thing I get is an error message that the Data source credentials aren't right.

The only thing I got from this database are an url  (not the root url by the way) and an api-key (Subscription key).

In the desktop version I made a connection with the Web connectione (get data and than choose web. I then gave in the url and the Subscription key and  it worked flawless.

So I also want to use that methode (it's the only thing I got) to automaticly refresh the database.

I have been searching though this community and I couldn't find a working answer.

And if Microsoft is reading this too: I wont take no for an answer. This has to work! If it doesn't work in the cloudversion they should haven't implemented is at all.

I'm getting really frustrated about this.

With Kind regards,

Sjaak

  • Hi Sjaak_Molotof ,
If your error message says "Data Source credentials are missing or not correct", then it is because Power BI Services is not able to detect the credentials you have provided.

What is the authentication method you are using in PBI Desktop? Can you check around the different authentication methods provided in Services for the dataset and check because pretty clearly, the issue seems to be with credentials.

All I got is an URl of the database and a subscription key. I make contact with the database (in powerbi-desktop) via the "Web" option. In the advanced option I give in the url to the specific table of that database. And in the http-paramaters I give in : Ocp-Apim-Subscription-Key (followed by the subscription key).

I published this to our "TEAMS" enviroment so other people of our organisation can make use of the database.

And there I (tried) to plan the "auto-refresh" of the database. But then it keeps telling me its missing credentials. And no one  knows which methode I should use to log in.  Is it Anonymous, Basis or Oauth2?

The database I (need to) connect to is also an Azure database in a Microsoft enviroment so it should talk with each other.

Can you tell me the answer?

        Sjaak_Molotof ,
This can be some limitation associated with Teams environment. Web connectors already throw lots of authentication errors for very small issues.
The best solution I'll suggest is to raise a ticket with MS Support and get all clarifications subjected to your actual use case.
