Hi @Anonymous

The URL that you displaying, is this coming from how I & the video described how to get it? This is a very important step as it gives you the exact location of the file. But if it works in Desktop, then it should also work in the Service.

Within the Refresh settings of the report, have you edited the credentials also?

Hello @JoeBarry

Thank you so much for your help to resolve this issue. We tried a lot and finally resolved the issue

It was giving issue because of having ":x:/r/" in the URL.

Faulty URLhttps://biib-my.sharepoint.com/:x:/r/personal/Pras_bose_Company_com/Documents/INT/SalesData.xlsx

Working URLhttps://biib-my.sharepoint.com/personal/Pras_bose_Company_com/Documents/INT/SalesData.xlsx

Thanks,

Hello @JoeBarry

If we have below Web connection in Power BI Desktop which is working fine in Power BI Desktop
1) Connection Type - Web
2) Web URL: https://biibmy.sharepoint.com/:x:/r/personal/company_com/_layouts/15/Doc.aspx?sourcedoc=%7lA7717D73-59pe-43A9-877A-5e5A185E7325%7D&file=SalesData.xlsx
3)Credential - Organizational Account
4) Privacy Level -- Any

After deploying the report in Power BI. The same will not work in Power BI Service because such authentication option will not come in service when we edit the data source.

Let us know if You are also agree with it ot any workaround.

Thanks,

PBI V2

I could set Gateway in Power BI cloud for an Excel, the step was needed to use OAuth2 for authentication.

Hello @JoeBarry

Sorry for pasting wrong URL. Here is the correct URL

https://biib-my.sharepoint.com/:x:/r/personal/Pras_bose_Company_com/Documents/INT/SalesData.xlsx

With this url also, we are facing the same issue.

Not able to autehnticate datasource because for Web connection, Anonymous, Basic,& OAuth2 options are not working in Power BI/

In Power BI desktop, It is working with Organizational Account.

Thanks,

Hello, As of my knowledge, I setting up a Personal Gateway for Excel in OneDrive on Office 365:

1. Install the Gateway:

Download the On-Premises Data Gateway from the Power BI service.
Install and run it on your machine.
2. Configuration:

Sign in using your Office 365 credentials.
Set a name and recovery key for the gateway.
3. Link with Power BI:

In Power BI Service, go to Settings > Gateways.
Find your gateway and link the data source (OneDrive in this case) to it.
4. Refresh Dataset:

After setting up the gateway, go to your dataset in Power BI Service.
Use the Refresh Now option.

This should address the refresh issue. Ensure the machine with the gateway stays online for refreshes. If issues persist, double-check data source credentials and paths in Power BI.

I hope this will help you.

Hi @Anonymous

How did you connect to the excel? Are you using the Web connector or is it connected locally on your device?

If it's connected locally, then you will have issues. If you connect directly to OneDrive online, you don't need a Gateway.

Presuming that there is a Sync between your device's OneDrive and the cloud, to connect through the web connector. please do the following.

  • Open the Excel app
  • Go to file Under last used, you will see the file name. Right click and copy the file url JoeBarry_0-1692610561925.png
  • Go to Power BI Desktop and choose the Web connector and paste the URL and remove the section below JoeBarry_1-1692610685540.png
  • Click ok

There no need to set up a refresh as it will do it automatically when the report is opened.

Thanks

Joe

Hello @JoeBarry

Thanks for your response

We are using Web Connector to comsume office365 excel  which is available in OneDrive. We are able to refresh in Power BI Desktop as per your reply but we are not able to do the same when we deploy this report into my Workspace.

Thanks,

PBI V2

Here is great video with your secenario https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYSMZxaXNLk

The person looking to set up the refresh will need to have accesss to the file
