How to keep visuals up to date when working with live data (report vs dashbaord)

Hi bbart86 

 

The only option I know of is the auto page refresh on the visuals.

 

Currently it is by design that you have to interact with the visuals for the changes to be made.

I assume you are referring to this feature: Automatic page refresh in Power BI Desktop - Power BI | Microsoft Learn. It sounds like I need to use a "direct query" DirectQuery in Power BI - Power BI | Microsoft Learn. 

 

Have you used this before? If so, was it successful at auto updating the visuals and data together?

 

General questions that I'm trying to answer now:

What are the basic steps to convert a "get data ~ web" url based connection converted direct query?

Based on my quick read it sounds like I may need to use a data gateway, is this correct?
