How to create a Power Bi Service account

I need help understanding how we manage the POWERBI Service account so that if a user left from the organization also, we should not have any problem viewing our reports.

I need step by step process on how can we manage this or any reference link.

  • Hi Anonymous ,
If a user leaves the organization and his/her outlook365 account gets depreciated, then reports dependent on that individual might create issue(s).

The best way to handle this is having a common account for the team with shared credentials. This account should be used by any person in the team for publishing reports, setting up subcriptions, providing access to business users, etc. This eliminates dependency on any individual.

This is poor advice from a security perspective. A common account with shared credentials amongst a team is highly prone to compromise. Instead, you should work with your IT team to create an actual service account that IT has credentials to and then, work with your IT team to set up any resources that require the service account.

Posting this here in case anyone else comes here looking for this information.

When an original developer leaves an organisation, the other user like an Admin of the workspace takes over the developments like datasets / data flows etc to ensure continuity of the service. As per Power BI documentation we don't have any "Service Accounts"

Hi Anand24, the way you suggest seems to be a violation of Power BI Pro license. Every report creator must have a Pro license.
