Hi,
Our current Fabric tenant has single P1 SKU Capacity that was created on West Europe.
Data are also stored on West Europe (Power BI Tenant location)
For several reasons we would like to change both locations to France Central. Is that possible?
1) How to Change capacity region
I have a rough idea but some doubts
MS Docs establishes that for doing that you need to create a new capacity. Since in our case as we don't have more SKU´s availables we will have first to delete the current capacity (West W) and then to create a new one (France C).
My question is: what will happen with all items (e.g: workspaces) that are currently assigned to the capacity. (sample below of a workspace currently assigned to West Europe)
Should I assume that I will have to manually reassign the "new France Central" capacity to all the workspaces that are currently using the "West europe one" Will this work fine? I mean, have someone done it before?
2) How to change Power BI data location (home region)
At that point I am completely lost. It seems that this is not the location of the capacity if not the tenant one. Microsoft describe it as the Power BI Home region
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/fabric/admin/find-fabric-home-region
It looks like this is a change of tenant location that has to be requested to MS(!)
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/support/service-admin-region-move
but when following steps mentioned on the link following message does appears
So, it´s game over ? No way to change the Fabric tenant location?
Does it take to change the capacity region and leave the Tenan where it is now?
Note: In our case (where we have a Premium PBI License before Fabric deployment) It looks like the Fabric tenant location was inherited from the PowerBI one. Did exist some way to avoid it?
Regards,
Engage your Vendor Management team and the Microsoft support line. They can figure out the mechanics of dropping and recreating the capacity.
