How to add a new data source from Power BI service to a report?

Hi All,

I have 2 questions/doubts to be answered clearly with steps.

1. Can we add a new data source in the PBI Report (which is already built from SQL datasource) from PBI Service? If so, how to do that? Can you please elaborate on the steps of achieving that?

2. I have a PBI Report created where the data source is "Power BI datasets", now can I add one more dataset like Excel/sharepoint/SQL to the same report? If so, how to do that? Can you elaborate on the steps of achieving that?

Any comments on this would be really helpful.

Thanks in advance !!

Hi @Anonymous ,

  1. It seems no other ways add a new data source in the Power BI Service. The Microsoft Power BI Service (app.powerbi.com), sometimes referred to as Power BI online, is the SaaS (Software as a Service) part of Power BI. In the Power BI service, dashboards help you keep a finger on the pulse of your business.
  2. You can try @amitchandak 's way, or  try to download the PBIX and open it on the Power BI Desktop. Please refer to the following document for further information.https://docs.microsoft.com/power-bi/create-reports/service-export-to-pbix

Or connect the dataset on th Power BI Desktop.Please refer to the following document for further informarion.https://docs.microsoft.com/power-bi/connect-data/desktop-report-lifecycle-datasets

@Anonymous ,

1. I doubt you can add in power bi service a new dataset, You can change one in the deployment pipeline

2. You can add but once you the live connection will become direct query
