How to Give Edit Access to Only One Report in a Fabric Workspace?

Hi Community,

I have a Microsoft Fabric workspace that contains 3-4 Power BI reports. I want to give edit access to a specific user for only one of the reports, without allowing them to view or edit the other reports in the workspace.

From what I understand, if I give the user access to the entire workspace (as a Member or Contributor), they will be able to access all items in the workspace — which is not what I want.

Is there a way to grant edit permissions on only one specific report without giving them access to the rest of the workspace items?
Any workaround or best practice to achieve this would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

If a user needs to edit a report do they have acces to power bi desktop?  why not let them make changes to the report in the desktop, they can save it to a central location like in sharepoint and you can have a process for publishing from there if they dont have those permissions in the workspace.   You cannot give a user edit access to only one report in a workspace.

another option is to have different development workspaces if you have to separate it out that way.

Hi @mohita98,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Fabric Community Forum.

@vanessafvg , thanks for your swift response.

Currently, Microsoft Fabric does not allow granting edit access to a single report within a workspace. Workspace permissions apply to all items.

we can try some other options as below,

Share the report with "Build" permissions: Users can create new reports based on the dataset but can't edit the original report.
Duplicate the report in a separate workspace : Export the .PBIX file and upload it to a new workspace where the user has edit access.

Use Deployment Pipelines : Deploy a copy of the report to another workspace where the user can edit.

There’s no direct way to restrict edit access to one report while keeping it in the same workspace. If isolation isn't possible, sharing with "Build" permissions is the best.
