How many rows can Power BI Service load into a new report?

Hi folks,

I have an issue with creating a report once I copy two months sell out report from excel. Is there a limit to how many rows can be loaded? I am talking about around 14,000 rows for two months. Single months with 6.000 rows are not a problem. Thank you in advance! Sergio

When you publish to power bi service, a single dataset must be smaller than 1 GB, and Power bi premium are up to 10 GB in size. Once uploaded, a dataset can be refreshed to up to 12 GB in size. To use a large dataset, publish it to a workspace that is assigned to Premium capacity.

Since you’re dealing with around 14,000 rows for two months, it should fall well within the size limits. Ensure that your data model and visuals are optimized to avoid exceeding the capacity limits.

Maybe you can consider using incremental refresh to manage large datasets efficiently.

Other limitations:

Distinct values in a column - When caching data in a Power BI dataset (sometimes called 'Import' mode), there is a 1,999,999,997 limit on the number of distinct values that can be stored in a column.

Row limit. When you use DirectQuery, Power BI imposes a limit on the query results that it sends to your underlying data source. If the query sent to the data source returns more than one million rows, you see an error and the query fails. The underlying data can still contain more than one million rows. You're unlikely to reach this limit, because most reports aggregate the data into smaller sets of results.

Column limit - The maximum number of columns allowed in a dataset, across all tables in the dataset, is 16,000 columns. This limit applies to the Power BI service and to datasets used in Power BI Desktop. Power BI tracks the number of columns and tables in the dataset in this way, which means the maximum number of columns is 16,000 minus one for each table in the dataset.

Power BI is conceived to support Big Data analysis. 14k rows are nothing close to cause an issue of importing them in Power BI. You must have other thing that is causing your issue.
