How can I share a dataflows with Power BI pro users?

Hi,

I have recently started developing PBI dataflows.  During the licensing conversation, I was told that pro license holders can use dataflows, but they can't develop or change anything.  Yet, I just tried to test whether the pro users can access the dataflows stored on the premium workspace, but they can only access the workspace but not the dataflows.

Can someone please share with me how you use dataflows to standardise the data transformation?

Thanks!

Hi @cheryl-lee33 ,

There are some limitations for Power BI Pro:

Only one person can edit/own the Dataflow. So you need to "take it over" if you want to change stuff around there.

Generally, you can only give permissions on the workspace I think.

Hi,

Thank you for your input.

In the future, we will have someone else to edit the dataflows too.  For now, I just want to be able to allow pro users to use the tables output by dataflows.  Is there a way for that to happen?

Thanks!

Is it Premium Per User or a Premium Capacity?

Hi,

I now understand what you were asking.  We have a premium per user workspace.

The users have pro licenses.  The dataflows are sitting on premium workspace.  The users can see Report/Dataset but not dataflows.

If they can see reports and datasets in a workspace but cannot see a dataflow in the same workspace I would think that they might only have viewer rights + build on the dataset potentially?

Maybe someone else has another idea but this is the only thing I can think of for that scenario.

If you have contributor or member or higher you should be able to see all artifacts in that workspace.

You cannot give permissions on a Dataflow on its own, it happens through the workspace rights.

We did try contributor and it still did not work.  At the moment, I think it may be due to the limitation of "calculated table" or "linked table"?

If that's the case, it is so annoying that licenses are too confusing.
