How can I protect my intellectual property?

Is it possible to somehow license a .pbix file? In other words if I sell a .pbix fille to customers how can I ensure that they can't simply share it with others? Can it be encrypted or password protected somehow? Or if I allow them to run it in their own Azure environment is it impossible for to me prevent them from sharing it?

Hi @Anonymous ,

I have a little confused about your question.

Do you want to protect your report when sharing in Power BI Service?

If it is, you could unclick the option Allow recipients to share your report when you sharing the dashboard or report.

If you still need help, could you describe your scenario in more details so that we could help further on it.

Best  Regards,

Cherry

Hey,

basically it's currently not possible to protect your pbix.

You might consider to create a Power BI App and make this available on appsource.

Tom

That's basically what I've done right now. The feedback I'm getting from a ton of potential customers is that they will not let their data outside of their control so they aren't buying the product. I'm looking for a way to protect my IP as well as satisfy the requests that their data not leave their control. 😞

Hi,

I think I have the same problem.

1. I have created a report that extracts data from an off the shelf commercial software system.

2. It has taken a lot of effort with very little assitance from the supplier.

3. I have now been asked to supply it to other users.
4. How can I do this without giving away all of my research / intellectual property?

5. Like you, I have to allow the customer to run it in their own environment.

6. Assuming your problem is the same, did you find an answer?

Thank you,

Paul

Hi,

have you solved this problem?

I'm in the same situation.

Thanks

I am not sure if I understood your question. When you share the app, what additional features or functionality is the customer expecting?
