Housekeeping in Premium Capacity
Dear all,
our company has Premium Capacity with 3xP1, so we have 24 v-cores & 100 GB to use.
In the last few years, Power BI has been growing to a self-service platform, where we now have hundreds of workspaces and tausend of datasets / reports ect... within the Premium Capacity, which is now frequently reaches 100% and we have low performance on those days.
Of course on one hand, we can increase the ressource by buying more Capacity, but due to cost reduction strategy it is not allowed to do so right now.
So on the other hand we decided to clean-up the Premium Capacity. And here I am today to post this question in the role of an admin PBI:
Does anyone know the tool to clean-up old or not in use artifacts? Is there any housekeeping method we can use?
I guess, with the self-service approach maybe other companies are also facing similar situation of uncontrolled and unstructured development inside the PBI platform in some way? How do you solve this problem?
It would be great to hear experience and advices from you all!

VanAnh Well, if you are having resource limitations then the best place to start is the Premium Capacity Metrics App to identify which artificates are using the most resources and what all is being impacted. Install the Premium metrics app - Power BI | Microsoft Learn.
Removing unused artifacts is not going to help with CPU and memory resource constraints in general. But, you could use the Power BI Admin REST API or PowerShell cmdlets to do some general investigation and potentially determine what is not being used. They used to have an unused command. You could also potentially unassign certain workspaces from Premium and have them used Shared in order to free up resources on the Premium capacities. This would take a little investigation but if a workspace is not using any of the Premium features then it would be a potential candidate to just run on Shared capacity instead.
Generally, even in self-service situations, there is still a good amount of governance that exists for Premium capacities in terms of what actually gets promoted into Premium capacities from shared capacity. Not judging, but it sounds like that governance has been pretty light thus far?
