Handing developments (in the service) by 'free users'

Hi,

I have a report which has been developed in isolation by a free user in the Power BI service (not desktop), the user can see the report in their workspace but cannot share (understandable).

I have a Pro license and i am a Power BI admin but i cannot find a way to extract his (theoretical) PBIX to allow me to re-develop, setup datasources and publish and share correctly. There is no PBIX he can pass to me (as if developed in PBI desktop because he developed it in the service).

I can see this report in his personal workspace when i search for it in the admin portal but cannot copy.

The user cannot 'copy to' his report into a workspace i created or download a copy of his report (Pro licence needed) .

The report is locked into the users personal workspace - please help this report get out into the wild 🙂 !

Thanks

Hi @montanaBI ,

Here is a way to do it- this method has some complexity to it:

https://notes.mthierba.net/power-bi/how-to/download-pbix-report-created-in-service

It might be easier to just re-create the report in Power BI desktop.

Ask him to share pbix file with you and then you can publish it to any workspace

To share, he can download from his personal worksapce or use local copy if he have.
