Governance: Business Users, Descriptions etc

Hey all,

Curious how everyone here maintains ownership, governance etc of their Power BI's on a workspace. We have a relatively complicated arrangement of different companies, people etc who all use our reports. Each report is supposed to have: a BU Owner, BU Lead, a Description, Privacy things, access notes etc. I don't like the idea of exporting to an excel and keeping that up to date (it's cumbersome anyway), and in a perfect world I have a report that shows all my reports, their usage, the department or user responsible for them, health metrics etc based on notebook refresh. Has anyone done this before?

Cheers,

Michelle

Unfortunately what you're asking for is not built currently within the Power BI Fabric service. This is something hopefully someone else might have tackled, or you might have to find bits and pieces of what other people have done and a part of that based on your requirements.

As GilbertQ mentioned, this is not a native capability.

What I'm doing to get similar info about my reports, is I have a formalized IT process to move a report to production. We manage that through our ITSM software (ServiceNow for my org).

When a request is submitted, the BU owner and other required info is entered into the ticket by the requestor, goes through some approval steps, and then once approved, it is deployed to a prod workspace.

From there I have a notebook that pulls data from ServiceNow into a Fabric Lakehouse, and I am pulling all that info, and then I have created a Power BI report sitting on that data to act as a report catalog.

So it is possible, but it's entirely custom, not native functionality.

Ah okay! Bummer! Thank you for the context - it's such a pain to not be able to see what reports are for who and all the metadata about them. I've gotten the smarties in our Data Engineering team to take a look, hoping that there is something with the Graph API + SharePoint perhaps that we can build. But yes, also bespoke.
