Github integration and dataset vs semantic model
It appears that pushing a dataset from the service to github saves it in a .SemanticModel directory while saving it from the desktop client saves it as a .Dataset. Any insight on why the service doesn't create a .Dataset folder?
Not exactly what I was going for but thanks for the response & links. I do understand the difference. Somehow while converting pbix to pbib for use with github, Saving by desktop created pickle.Dataset & pickle.Report with version 1.0. Saving from the service created pickle.SemanticModel & pickle.Report with version 4.0.
The difference was throwing me off and I didn't understand why the same month's versions created different folders. I deleted my client and reinstalled Aug, Sep, Oct and Nov and couldn't recreate the pickle.Dataset folder. I'll chalk it up to a quinky-dink and move on.

In Power BI Services, the dataset has been renamed semantic model. The term semantic model better reflects the rich functionality of Analysis Services data models, upon which Power BI reports are based.
