Getting data to existing Power BI data set from uploaded Power BI Workbook (Excel)

Is there any possibility to enrich your existing Power BI dataset with Excel data loaded to Power BI workbook using Local File upload feature as described in article https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/connect-data/service-excel-workbook-files

- I tried to upload with "import", then just new dataset is created what you cannot use in your existing Power BI dataset

- With "upload" option it is just Excel online workbook but cannot find ways to access it from Power BI

Accessing this data seems so elementary, but somehow do not find the way to do that...

Regards,

Fred

Hi @Anonymous ,

From your description, you want to add new data source in your dataset , am I right. Just download the pbix file, open it with the Power BI Desktop and get data on it. After you add the new data source, public it to the service again.

Hi Dedai,

I need that Power BI dataset would refresh itself automatically in Power Bi portal, uploading PBIX manually do not help here

Hi @Anonymous ,

I didn't think of any other way except to rebuild your dataset.

Rebuilding dataset would be fine if I can easily attach Excel online data into it, preferably from workbook in Power BI  portal - unfortunatelly I cannot find any way to do that.

Hi @Anonymous ,

I also recommend you create an idea for it  in https://ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi-ideas to improve the power bi.

@Anonymous  - What do you mean if you import it you cannot use your existing dataset? Sorry, I'm not clear on what you are asking.

Hi Greg, I kept in mint that importing Excel will create whole new dataset, but if i need just one table from that Excel to be part of existing dataset - I cannot do this easily. I need  set up on-premise data gateway and connect that way. Also I can import Excel from Sharepoint folder, but in case there is no Sharepoint but OneDrive these is problem again to het data into model - or do I miss something?
