Getting Unable to create connection for the following reason: Invalid connection credentials

We had an employee that had some Power BI Data Connections tied to their laptop.  Which I know is not best practice but unfortunatley that is how one of the departments did it.  Their last day was last week Friday.  On Sunday 3.31 I took ownership of these data connections and installed the Standard Gateway onto the server and tied it to my Office 365 login credentials.  I was able to get the connections tied to the gateway and the refresh was working.

As of this morning the dataset connections are not refreshing and I am getting the below message:

Unable to create connection for the following reason: Invalid connection credentials.

Details: Motus: The credentials provided for the File source are invalid. (Source at t:\battle creek\btc defect log\dle.xlsx.) Please have this information handy if you choose to create a support ticket. Session Id: 93a8fa35-f58b-4f4b-942a-f9b6343c3759 RequestId: 309ab8d9-6d01-4635-af5a-fa85879e81bb Cluster URI: https://api.powerbi.com Status code: 400 Time: Mon Apr 01 2024 18:34:22 GMT-0400 (Eastern Daylight Time)

I did some extensive looking into this and everything I have tried form restarting the server, reinstalling the Standard Gateway on the server to trying different login credentials that I know has access to the file path.  From the server I was able to take the file path and put it into File Explorer and I can access files with no issues.  I am at a loss.  Can someone please assist me.  I have also opened a ticket with Microsoft.

Hello Lbendlin

Thank you for the added information.  Right now I am the only cluster member and have access to the T network drive.  But the gateway is not liking my credentials and I know 100% that they work.

What type of gateway is it, personal or enterprise?

It was originally setup as a personal gateway.  So I have tried that and the standard gateway on the server and on the former employees computer with my credentials which has read and modify access to the file paths.

your credentials don't matter. The gateway usually runs under its own credentials. these need to have access.

Generally you should not connect to files directly. Use a Folder connector if you must, and a SharePoint Folder connector if you can (for the latter you will also not need a gateway).

Make sure all gateway cluster members can access the T:  drive.
