Get user access to warehouse in SQL Server without a workspace membership

Hi Community,

In Power BI Fabric, how are you getting access for a Pro license user to the warehouse in SQL Server without giving them workspace membership? I tried the solution by Adam of Guy in a Cube, but https://youtu.be/MdmPjZAV9I8?si=V5b6Dd_aXE0WptzK&t=476 . But where Jane Doe can log into SQL at 8:49 in the video, I get the error:

Login failed for user '<token-identified principal>'. (Framework Microsoft SqlClient Data Provider)'

------------------------------

Error Number: 18456

Severity: 14

State: 198

Line Number: 65536

Any ideas or workarounds?

Thanks!

Hi @AJ_PBI_Newbie ,

First of all thanks to SaiTejaTalasila  for the quick reply. Allow me to make some additions:

You can customize the level of permissions that the shared recipient is granted to provide the appropriate level of access.

The following animated gif reviews the steps to select a warehouse to share, select the permissions to assign, and then finally Grant the permissions to another user.

Other than that, for more detailed information and restrictions please refer : Share your warehouse and manage permissions - Microsoft Fabric | Microsoft Learn

Hi @AJ_PBI_Newbie ,

Please check whether you have provided read access to warehouse to the user or not.Add him as viewer and see whether he was able to access the data or not.

If you are using fabric trail capacity you will have the issues. And if you are using a premium capacity then you can open a ticket with MS.

I hope it will be helpful.

Thanks,

Sai Teja
