Get all used tables from PBIX

Hi,

I have a client with a large datamodel that uses only a small portion of the tables in their reports, I had the task to finding out what tables exactly are being used. I had a few reports with given pages that should be looked into. The issue is, this takes a lot of times because I have to check every visual for the fields that are used, scrolling the fields pane up and down to check. I've been looking for solutions, but non did do the trick, so I decided to create something with Excel myself, because that's the fastest way for me to develop something to fix this.

I created a Excel containing a macro that does the trick. The manual is in the file itself, feel free to check the VBA code (ALT-F11) if your scared of any malware. I only protected part of the tab to make sure elements don't get deleted, but there is no password. You can download it here(save as xlsm)

I did a sanity check on a few reports that are familliar to me, the table names that are generated matched my expectations. If you find anything missing, let me know.

Hope this can help someone out! 😁

Hi @ray_codex ,

You can use third party tools like Bravo for Power BI to do this:

https://www.sqlbi.com/tools/bravo-for-power-bi/

Never used Bravo, for what I know it contains the basic features of tabular editor and DAX studio, that I use on a daily basis. Both provide ways to interact with the model, not the report itself. There isn't any option to interact with visuals to get information on used fields.

Ah, I misread your initial post. Thanks for sharing.
