Get-PowerBIActivityEvent vs Azure Log Analytics for Power BI

I was under the impression that these two should be giving similar information. But I was calling the Get-PowerBIActivityEvent API and i dont have a bunch of metrics that should be in the log analytics.

So my question is are these complementary ? Whats the use cases for the activity events for you?

Hi @ducky

They are actually quite different. The Activity Events logs the events that are happening such as creating reports, viewing reports, exporting etc.

The log Analytics is from the Power BI Analysis Services Engine which is recording things related to the engine, such as queries run, how long they ran for, refreshes on semantic models and which users are doing this.

Thanks @GilbertQ

In the documentation to configure log analytics for PBI there is a step where I need to configure the log analytics workspace in azure connections for each workspace.

Do you know if there is a way to do this programatically ?

I have over 1K workspaces so doing this manually would be very very tedious.

Happy to help!
