Gen 1 Dataflow Announcement
Hi BradHale,
Thank you for posting your query in the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum.
As per the blog you shared, Dataflow Gen1 is now moving into a legacy state, meaning there will be no further feature investments and support will be limited. However, the blog also clarifies that existing Gen1 dataflows will continue to work for the foreseeable future, and retirement timelines have not yet been finalized. Microsoft has also stated that customers on Premium capacity will receive at least 12 months’ notice before any retirement.
The main takeaway from the announcement is that Dataflow Gen2 is the future direction, and Microsoft recommends starting to plan migration. That said, there is no immediate impact to current Gen1 workloads.
For environments like GCC, where Gen2 availability may still be evolving, this effectively means you can continue using Gen1 while monitoring updates and planning for a future transition.
Best regards,
Ganesh Singamshetty.
BradHale Dataflow Gen1 is being phased out; however, existing solutions will continue to run as usual. As per the Microsoft product team, there are currently no plans to retire them.
