Helper IVGateway using odbc on AS/400
Hi,
I need to plan updates of my report. This report is connected to some file Excel and with odbc to AS/400.
Where have I to install the gateway?

Where you install a Gateway depends on the location of the data, the frequency of refresh and the amount of data to pass through the Gateway. Obviously you can't install it on an AS/400, so the Gateway will have to be installed on a machine with network access to the AS/400 and the Excel files.
If the Excel files are on a file server, it may be possible to install the Gateway there, or you may have to have a server dedicated to the Gateway. A dedicated gateway is the optimum solution, but for proof of concept, or for very small amounts of data or infrequent refreshes you could install the Gateway on your own machine. This is known as a "Personal Gateway" and is good for testing and small solutions. However a Personal Gateway can be slow, and obviously stops working if your machine is turned off. Which is why a dedicated Gateway is best, secondly it could be on a shared Server, and finally a personal Gateway.
