This issues is similar to the following post, but slightly different.
Can-t-refresh-data-after-appending-queries-PowerBIGateway-14-16
Scenario 1
Query 1 is sourced from SSAS. Gateway setup and verified to work for this data source.
Query 2 is sourced from SFDC. Oath2 credentials are used.
Query 3 uses the "append to new" function to combine Query 1 and Query 2.
This scenario works fine in Power BI descktop including refresh. In the Power BI service, the gateway is unavailable; not able to refresh.
Scenario 2
Query 1 is sourced from SSAS. Gateway setup and verified to work for this data source.
Query 2 is sourced from SSAS. Gateway setup and verified to work for this data source.
Query 3 uses the "append to new" function to combine Query 1 and Query 2.
This scenario works fine in Power BI desktop and in the Power BI service. The gateway is available and enables refresh.
Question: Is scenario 1 a known bug? If so, please provide the ticket number and status. If not, please let me know how to make scenario 1 refresh in the Power BI service.
Thank you,
Paul
Hi @PaulBFelix,
For #1, current on-premise gateway not support oauth credentials, I think the issue may related to this.
I'd like to suggest you to use personal gateway to instead.

I'm not understanding your reply, v-shex-msft. Why would I need a gateway to access Salesforce?
Hi @PaulBFelix,
Your report has multiple datasources, if it only contains salesforce, you not need to use gateway to manage it.
