Gateway connection in Power BI Service using Tokens for Web Data Source

Hi All,

We have got a request to create a gateway connection for Web Data source using Tokens. Can you please help on this as this is the first type of request we have got to create gateway connection using tokens in Power BI Service.

Based on your problems, here are my answers.

Firstly you need to install an on-premises data gateway. This gateway allows you to securely connect to on-premises data sources from Power BI Service.

In the Power BI Service, click on the Settings icon in the page header, then select Manage connections and gateways.

You can create a new connection and you can also read this document: Add or remove a gateway data source - Power BI | Microsoft Learn

To use the data source for Power BI reports and dashboards, ensure that the server and database names match between Power BI Desktop and the data source added to the gateway. Once the data source is added, you can use it for scheduled refresh or DirectQuery in your Power BI reports. Please provide a more detailed explanation of what you are aiming to achieve. What have you tried and where are you stuck?

We are trying to create a gateway connection for Web data source and User has shared user id and tokens as a password to make use for creating a gateway connection. Can you please help on this as already we are making use of On-Premises data sources for creation of gateways.

You may need to look into creating a custom connector that can handle the authentication portion.  Where are you planning to source the token from?
