Gateway Upgrade using GatewayInstall.exe /silent

Has someone tried the On-premise Data Gateway upgrade using GatewayInstall.exe /silent command?

I have tested and it seems it works, but I'm afraid there are other things to take into account.. for instance this month .NET 4.8 installation before the upgrade.

Any thoughts?

  • That .Net 4.8 installation would only impact really old VM images like poorly maintained Windows Server 2012 R2.  If you are up to date on your Windows patches then the install should be seemless.

What you really want to avoid is to update all cluster members at the same time. Ideally you should be able to initiate the update in a sequence, with ample time between the cluster members, and only if the cluster member is currently idle.

Net/net  a manual update is still giving you the most control for the time being.

In our enironment we don't use GatewayInstall, we use PowerBIGatewayInstaller  (which includes the download of the latest version). Do you know if that supports the same switch?
