Gateway Connection on Dataset showing as both Configured and Not Configured

Hi there,

I have a dataset that extracts data from a central SQL data warehouse and then appends some additional data from an excel file for some manual data corrections, this file is located on a fileshare. As such, I have two data sources. For each data source there is a gateway data connection configured, and both work without any issues independently. But for this particular dataset, I am getting the following odd error when I try to connect the dataset to the data connections.

As you can see, for each connection I get both a green checkmark and a red cross.

Any help on solving this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Hi aj1973 ,thanks for the quick reply, I'll add to it.

Hi LaMatt,

Regarding your question, I realized that your data source definition belongs to two different gateways. It may be that you selected two different gateways (with similar gateway names) when you created the data source definition. Make sure that both data source definitions belong to the same gateway.

Only one gateway or a cluster of gateways can be used per semantic model. If you want to add the above two gateways to your cluster, please refer to the following article:

Hi @LaMatt

You need a Gateway installed on-prem

Power BI service connects to local sources through Power BI Gateway.

Hi @aj1973 , I am not sure I follow, a gateway connection has been installed and configured for both the SQL Server and the folder on the fileshare. I assume why that is why I am actually getting a green check mark for both connections?

The Gateway is not configured correctly and Both sources need to be added to the Gateway. The check mark is to indicate what sources were detected in the semantic model but not added to the gateway.

The is the issue that the two data source connections are configured on different clusters?

That's what it is, you can't do that in a semantic model. The cluster is used when a primary gateway fails the second gateway takes over. But it looks like you have 1 gateway in 2 clusters!!!? Not sure to understand the architecture
