Gateway Autobinding is not working Power BI Dataflows after deployment

Hi All,

I am trying to deploy gen1 dataflow (Source - Oracle ADW) from Dev workspace to Test workspace using Deployment Pipelines. In Deployment pipelines i have set the rules to update the source parameter value to test server. Problem i see is after the deployment when i trigger refresh, it is getting failed and when i open the dataflow the connection is not configured properly and i have to select the gateway connection and link.

I am trying to avoid Deployment team opening the dataflow and configuring connection which is manual process and not ideal. Please help me know if we can automate this in deployment pipeline itself

  • Hi vamshikrishna20,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft fabric community forum.

Deployment Pipelines do not support automatic gateway rebinding for Gen1 Dataflows the gateway connection must be manually configured post-deployment unless the connection already exists and is bound the same way in the target workspace.

These are the workarounds might be solve the issue: Preconfigure the data source connection in the target workspace using the exact same connection details (gateway, credentials, etc.) this enables Power BI to automatically recognize and bind the connection during deployment.

Alternatively, consider upgrading to Dataflows Gen2, which offer improved support for automation, including source control and pipeline compatibility.

    Hi vamshikrishna20,

    Thank you for following up.

To clarify, when we mention "unless the connection already exists and is bound the same way in the target workspace," we mean that the exact same connection setup including gateway, server name, and authentication method must already be configured and linked to the parameter used in your Dataflow within the target workspace.

In your case, since the target workspace uses a different server and gateway, even though you have created those connections and have access, Power BI sees this as a new, unmatched configuration. Therefore, auto-binding does not occur during deployment.

    To address this, you can:

Pre-bind the dataflow in the target workspace to the correct gateway connection.

Keep parameter names consistent across environments.

Once manually bound, future deployments will retain the connection unless parameters or connections change.

If you require automation, consider using Dataflows Gen2, which offer improved support for deployment pipelines, connection management, and version control.

Thank you and continue using Microsoft Fabric Community Forum.

  • v-sgandrathi - Thanks for the response. do you mind precising "unless the connection already exists and is bound the same way in the target workspace." please ?

FYI- I have different server and different gateway for target workspace and i (pipeline owner) has access to all these connections which are added upfront
