Filled map visual does not display certain countries

Using the ID: filledMap visual in the 2.137.1102.0 64-bit (Oktober 2024) version on PowerBI desktop. The country identified as HU is not highlighted, despite having similar ISO 3166-1 2 letter code entries as hightlighted countries in the base table. The field "Country" is identified as Data category country. There is no blank character after HU and it's the official ISO 3166-1 2-letter code.

Adding the ISO 3-letter code and country name as additional fields in the "location" field does not make a difference.
When I exclusively use the 3-letter code, HUN is filled but BEL and  RUS disappears.

Is there a list of country designations that are guaranteed to be recognized by the filled map visual?
Any ideas??

Hi @AstroGermany ,

Power BI relies on Bing for its mapping services, which adds another layer of complexity. The way Bing recognizes locations may differ from Google Maps or other mapping services in terms of naming, boundaries, and political status.

Based on my testing, HUN,BEL,RUS are correctly displayed on the map when I use ISO 3 letter codes or full country names.

Therefore, it is recommended that you use ISO 3 letter codes or full country names.

Hi Clara,
thanks for the reply.
Using the 3-Letter code does not work for RUS (and maybe others that I did not find), so I added some search and replace lines in the power query to adapt the country names to Russia etc. and now it seems to work.
Nonetheless I don't have a warm and fuzzy feeling about the reliability of this visual. I would maintain, that it should work more reliably using standardized and unique keys as opposed to "free text" country names. If BING (proud member of the Microsoft family) is the issue, then maybe it could be addressed there?

Hi Clara,
thanks for the reply. There must be something else involved, I tried that and it does not work:

HU does not work, RU and BE work.

BEL, RUS don't work, HUN works
If I want to use full country names, is there a list of "Bing"/ PowerBI accepted names? I could be Russia, or Russian Federation, Belgium, Kingdom of Belgium or Belgie. Names are much more ambiguous than abbreviations.
