Failing Dataflow refreshes when datasource is Business Central (Financial Report KPI web service)

Hey all

Hope someone can help make sense of this Dataflow refresh Failure i keep getting every second time my dataflow is executing the scheduled refresh, and when the refresh fails i've found out that i just have to open the Dataflow and select the Query that gets the KPI Finance Report data from the Business Central webservice, and let it load and then apply and close the dataflow edit again. Then run a dataflow refresh and the failure does not occure again.

This is the webservice:

Any idea why every second time the scheduled refresh of dataflow fails because of this specifict datasource?
Anybody else experienced this issue?

  • HI MacJasem ,

Do you have a more descriptive error message?  Also, is this in "My Workspace" or in a different workspace?  And, what is your permissions in that workspace?

      Hi collinq

Nothing else than an error on the dataflow, and a message about the dataflow failed during scheduled refresh. When i download the csv error report the indicator says that the table with the Source (Business Central) KPI Finance Report table failed.

The dataflow is not on My Workspace but in another dedicated workspace where i have Admin rights.

      BTW

I'm using the Business Central connector to retrieve data from the KPI Finance Report webservice in Business Central.

This is what i see everytime the dataflow has failed

I have a theory that it fails because the KPI Finance Report webservice in Business Central buffers every 3 minutes, and if my Scheduled Refresh triggers while the webservice is buffering, then it fails, and therefore why only the table that gets data from this webservice is the sole reason why the entire dataflow refresh fails.

If this is the case, do you have an idea on how to solve this issue og perhaps a workaround?

        Hi MacJasem ,

If the refresh triggers during buffering, the data retrieval may be temporarily unavailable, causing the Dataflow refresh to fail.
1.Schedule the refresh at a time when the web service is less likely to be buffering. If buffering occurs every 3 minutes, try adjusting the refresh  intervals to minimize conflicts.

2.Use Power Automate to initiate a retry whenever a failure occurs. Configure a flow to detect failures and automatically attempt a retry after a few minutes.Rather than performing a single refresh, break it into multiple steps first, load all other tables, then refresh the KPI Finance Report data separately.

Try adjusting the refresh schedule first this is the easiest fix. If that doesn’t work, Power Automate retries error handling could be a good workaround.
