Hi Anonymous ,
Sorry for the inconvenience caused by this issue. We have reproduced this issue on my side (we tried to create an entity connting with Salesforce Object in Dataflow but occur connection error, the same credential works fine on Power BI Desktop), We have report this issue and we will update here if we got a solution.

Hi Anonymous ,
Could you please try to verify if the same account can access salesforce? Could you please try to create another dataflow using the same credential?
Please don't have any Confidential Information or Real data in your reply.

Hi v-lid-msft ,
Many thanks for looking into this issue
I have tried to create a brand new dataflow with Salesforce objects but no luck. I am getting the same error unabe to connect to data source.
However I can able to create dataset based on Salesforce objects on PowerBI desktop with the same credentials.
This is clearly a service issue and happening from 15th Dec 2019 and suspect this is related to MS Power BI global maintenance, happened on the same day.
We have raised a premium ticket with MS, but the support is very very poor.
Our users need up-to-date data for year end reporting.
As scheduled refresh is not working, we have converted all Salesforce related dataflow queries into a single dataset, refreshing manually every 3 hours on desktop and publishing to Power BI service.
This issue creating a lot of work for our developers and everytime Power BI update happens a few features were breaking and wait 2 to 3 weeks for the fix.

Hi Anonymous ,
Could you please try to create a test report connecting salesforce in desktop, publish it to service, then configure the same credential in the service for scheduled refresh?Currently there are several similar situation where it can not even create credential for Salesforce dataset in Power BI Service .

Hi, were you able to find a solution? I've used the Salesforce connector but I had some issues with my data too. As a workaround, maybe you can try to test your connection with a 3rd party connector. I've tried windsor.ai, supermetrics and funnel.io. I stayed with windsor because it is much cheaper so just to let you know other options. In case you wonder, to make the connection first search for the Salesforce connector in the data sources list:
After that, just grant access to your Salesforce account using your credentials, then on preview and destination page you will see a preview of your Salesforce fields:
There just select the fields you need. It is also compatible with custom fields and custom objects, so you'll be able to export them through windsor. Finally, just select PBI as your data destination and finally just copy and paste the url on PBI --> Get Data --> Web --> Paste the url.

Hi there,
If the same Salesforce credentials work in Power BI Desktop but fail in a Power BI Dataflow, I would treat this as a Power BI Service or Power Query Online credential issue first, not as a bad Salesforce password.
I would check:
API Enabled is available for the Salesforce user.
The connection uses a supported Salesforce production or custom domain URL, not a Lightning URL.
Salesforce session settings are not blocking the integration.
A small test dataflow with one simple Salesforce object also fails.
The issue is isolated before rebuilding the full model.
If the Dataflow Salesforce Objects connector path remains unstable, another option is to test a different Salesforce-to-Power BI setup.
Power BI Connector for Salesforce by Metrica Software can help:
https://appexchange.salesforce.com/appxListingDetail?listingId=31526f0e-abd8-4cb5-bd1a-3bd56b5c0577It lets you create Salesforce data sources inside Salesforce, select objects and fields, apply filters, preview the output, and then connect Power BI to that prepared source.
This does not fix a Power BI Dataflow credential bug by itself, but it can help avoid relying on the Salesforce Objects connector inside Dataflows if that path keeps failing.
