Failed Refresh of Dataset Error

I have a pbix file and the datasources (one of which being an access database) are connected to a private sharepoint site.

I have published the report up to Power BI service.

When I try to refresh the dataset I get the following error.

Processing error: Microsoft Access: The 'Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0' provider is not registered on the local machine. The 64-bit version of the Access Database Engine OLEDB provider may be required to read this type of file. To download the client software, visit the following site: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=285987.

I have searched google and have downloaded and installed microsoft access database engine 2010 64 bit version on my machine.

My Office 365 is the 64 bit version but the issue still persists.

Any help on this matter would be gratefully appreciated.

Hi @WayneH_04

As you say, it is the Access database causing this problem. It is not possible to schedule refresh an Access data source unless you use a Personal Gateway. You'll need to install a Personal Gateway on the machine you installed the access database engine, and route the refresh through there.

see : Use personal gateways in Power BI - Power BI | Microsoft Docs

Hope this helps

Hi @WayneH_04 ,

Please refer the following step to see if it helps you.

  • Change file extension from xls to xlsx. "Power BI supports importing or connecting to workbooks created in Excel 2007 and later. Workbooks must be saved as .xlsx or .xlsm file type and be under 1 GB. Some features described in this article are only available in later versions of Excel."

Please refer to the following topic for further information.
