I am facing this error every night after 12 am,
Solved! Go to Solution.
The error you're encountering—"Your data gateway is offline or could not be reached"—indicates that the On-premises data gateway used for your Power BI refreshes is either shutting down, going into sleep mode, losing connectivity, or is otherwise unreachable after midnight. Since this happens consistently every night after 12 AM, it’s likely tied to a local system setting on the machine hosting the gateway. Common causes include automatic system sleep/hibernation, network adapter power-saving settings, or even scheduled system reboots or maintenance tasks (like antivirus scans or Windows Updates) that temporarily disrupt gateway connectivity.
To resolve this, first ensure that the gateway machine is always on and not set to sleep or hibernate during the refresh window. You can change this in the machine’s Power & Sleep settings by setting both options to “Never” and ensuring high-performance mode is enabled. Also, go into Device Manager > Network adapters > Power Management and uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”. Next, review Windows Task Scheduler or IT-managed scripts to ensure nothing restarts the machine or shuts down services at night. Additionally, confirm that the gateway version is up to date—older versions may behave inconsistently. Finally, in the Power BI Service, ensure the gateway is correctly mapped and shows as Online under Manage Gateways during your refresh schedule. These steps should help maintain reliable overnight refreshes.

Hello @akhileshgalo,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Forum Community.
Please update your On-Premises Data Gateway to the latest version (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=53127) and try again. Since you are using ...https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/connect-data/service-gateway-onprem-tshoot#firewall-or-pr...
As an alternative, consider installing the gateway on a Virtual Machine (VM) and keeping it always on. This ensures that report refreshes are not disrupted when your local machine is turned off.
If this information is helpful, please “Accept it as a solution” and give a "kudos" to assist other community members in resolving similar issues more efficiently.
Thank you.
Hi @akhileshgalo . Check your power settings to ensure it stays active. You could also restart the gateway service before the scheduled refresh.
Please check the below provided thread also in this they have used a VM
