My workspace is in F2 fabric capacity and when I'm trying to create DATA agent it is asking me to upgrade to trial? Any help?

Hi,

I also have the same problem.

Can't create data agents in this workspace: An admin needs to change the SKU type for your organization's Fabric capacity.

I have Fabric Trial capacity

Hi DiKi-I,

One of the prerequisites to create a Fabric data agent (preview) is to have a paid F2 or higher Fabric capacity resource, along with other prerequisites as shown in the screenshot below:

vpnarojumsft_0-1747659403483.png

For a Fabric data agent to function correctly, the Copilot and Azure OpenAI Service tenant settings must be enabled. These settings govern user access and data processing policies.

The Fabric data agent utilises Azure OpenAI Assistant APIs and functions as an agent. To access the prebuilt Azure OpenAI Service, including the Copilot in Fabric, you must have an F2 or higher SKU or a P SKU in the following Fabric regions. Please note that the Azure OpenAI Service is not available on trial SKUs. Currently, the Azure OpenAI Service that powers Fabric Copilot is deployed only in select US datacentres (East US, East US2, South Central US, and West US) and one EU datacentre (France Central).

The Fabric data agent is presently in public preview and has certain limitations. Updates will be introduced over time to enhance the Fabric data agent. Preview features are released with restricted capabilities but are made available on a preview basis to enable customers to gain early access and provide their valuable feedback.

I tried right now to resize to F64, I'll give it some time and then I think that the marketing is working much much faster than the devs behind the scene, and it is frustrating.

Hope to reach you soon.

Thanks,

Matteo

yeah that's true. 😂

Hi DiKi-I,

Thank you for the update.

Based on my understanding, the error is likely occurring because the workspace has not yet been fully recognized as being under the supported trial tier (F64), or the change has not fully propagated.

We kindly request you to follow the steps outlined below, which may help resolve the issue:

  1. Verify the capacity assignment.Navigate to the Microsoft Fabric Admin Portal and select Capacity settings. Confirm that the trial capacity exists (the SKU should be displayed as F64, and the region should be correctly set). Under Workspaces, ensure that your target workspace is listed and assigned to the trial capacity.

  2. Confirm that the capacity assignment is pointing to the Fabric trial capacity, and not to Pro or None.

  3. Refresh your browser session or try using an Incognito/Private browser window, and then attempt to create the Data Agent again.

If you find our response helpful, please mark it as the accepted solution and provide it with kudos. This will assist other community members who may have similar queries.

Thank you.

Hi DiKi-I,

Thank you for your follow-up.

The error message you are encountering, PbiApiError: UnsupportedCapacitySKU, indicates that the workspace has not been assigned to a supported capacity tier (F64 or higher), despite your attempt to click the Upgrade button. This issue may arise if the trial capacity was not provisioned successfully or if the workspace was not assigned to the newly provisioned trial Fabric capacity.

To resolve this, please navigate to the Microsoft Fabric Admin Portal and access the Capacity settings. Ensure that a Fabric trial capacity (F64) has indeed been created, and then manually assign your workspace to this Fabric trial capacity. After completing the assignment, kindly wait for a minute and refresh your browser before attempting to retry the Data Agent creation.

If you find our response helpful, we kindly request that you mark it as the accepted solution and provide kudos. This will assist other community members who may be facing similar queries.

Thank you.

Yes its f64 trial still it doesn't work.

Thanks for your response. I tried to manually assign the fabric trial capacity but it doesn't work. Still getting the same error.

Thank you, @Deku, for your response.

Hi @DiKi-I,

We appreciate your inquiry through the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum.

As mentioned by @Deku , the message you are seeing asking you to upgrade to a Fabric Trial appears because your workspace is currently in an F2 capacity, which does not support Data Agent capabilities at this time. This is expected behaviour until the announced changes are officially rolled out.

While we do not yet have a confirmed General Availability (GA) date, you can stay updated on the rollout timeline and other enhancements via the links below:
Microsoft Fabric Blog
What's New? - Microsoft Fabric | Microsoft Learn

The options available to you right now are to temporarily upgrade your workspace to the free trial capacity (equivalent to F64) by using the Upgrade button. This will enable immediate Data Agent creation. Alternatively, if you prefer to remain on F2, you may choose to wait for the rollout.

If you find our response helpful, we kindly request that you mark it as the accepted solution and provide kudos. This will assist other community members facing similar queries.

Thank you.
