same here unable to create the lakehouse under my workspace.
Have you tried to contact support as suggested in reply 36? Have you reviewed reply 34?
I'm also getting this issue, or I think it's the same. I'm attempting to do this training;
https://microsoftlearning.github.io/mslearn-fabric/Instructions/Labs/01-lakehouse.html
And when I attempt step two, create the lakehouse I receive the following error;
"Failed to prepare a free trial capacity for this workspace"
Sorry, we are unable to start trial at this time.

While it states it couldn't start the trial, I do see the trial day countdown in the menubar
The button at the bottom that states contact support also doesn't work. This is the 2nd issue I've hit with the training docs this week. Should there be something on the screen that states "Fabric Capacity" since I gather it's a module?
Problem still persists and I'm a bit disappointed to see some of the responses being posted clearly without going through the entire thread.
1. Multiple users have reported the same issue
2. It is a work ("non personal") account
3. No I can't raise a support ticket as clearly mentioned that I don't have a pro-license. I don;t have any paid license just wished to try Fabric trial.
4. This is purely a trial power bi account created following the steps documented by Microsoft
Answer from Microsoft Support:
Greetings from Microsoft,
We have checked with our internal team and they mentioned that as of now, Fabric trials are blocked for newly created tenants. We understand that you are starting a new company and that a Fabric trial is much needed for you, but currently, it is not supported for newly created tenants. I will let you know if any changes are made on this in the future.
Thank you for understanding.
As @haydnr suggested in comment 38, even if you think your case is exceptional, the support will not really helpful.
Thank you for the feedback. There can be many reasons why a Fabric trial capacity does not start which is why we recommend working with support. You do NOT need a paid license to get support for Fabric trial capacities. You can reach support from the '?' help menu or Microsoft Fabric Support and Status | Microsoft Fabric.
Common reasons why a Fabric trial capacity cannot be started include
- Fabric or Power BI Admin disabled trial on their tenant using Help and support admin settings - Microsoft Fabric | Microsoft Learn
- the limit of trial capacities for the tenant has been reached and the user should share existing trial capacities with other users as per Fabric trial capacity - Microsoft Fabric | Microsoft Learn
There is additional information in Fabric trial capacity - Microsoft Fabric | Microsoft Learn.
Now given the timing of this thread I suspect what many of you have been experiencing is the fact that we have stopped supporting Fabric trial capacities on newly created Entra and M365 tenants which many users have been used to spinning up for testing and learning. Unfortunately the ease of creating these tenants and these trial capacities led to significant abuse and we are unable to support further trial capacities on this class of tenant. We recommend all users initiate their Fabric trial capacities on the tenants associated with their work or school organization and NOT spin-up new tenants. Trial capacities continue to be available on longstanding tenants where there is material multi-product usage of Microsoft products. If you feel your case is exceptional please work with support.
Microsoft has disabled Fabric trials for trial/demo/personal tenants.
You can also reach support from the '?' help menu or Microsoft Fabric Support and Status | Microsoft Fabric. The countdown in the menu bar reflects days remaining in one or both of two separate and independent trials 1) Power BI Individual Trial of paid 2) Fabric trial capacity. It's possible the Fabric trial capacity failed to start but you did successfully initiate a Power BI Individual trial of paid for which you see the countdown.
@mrinmoygupta1 am I correct in hypothesizing that you created a brand new blank tenant for your trial? If yes, please note that we are no longer supporting this mechanism for creating trials. Please use the work or school tenant for your organization instead of creating a new blank tenant on the side.

This is a global issue as reported by other users. Steps to activate Fabric trial are already clearly outlined in microsoft documentation.
seems this is a global problem, probably Microsoft need to resolve this one pronto. I have raised a support call with Microsoft but the Infosys team in India seem oblivious to the issue.
Has anyone found a solution to this issue? I’m experiencing the same problem. ☹️
I have gotten the same issue, did you find a solution?
I still can't get this working 😞
Any help on this is appreciated as I've already wasted 4 of my trial days 😞
@rubayatyasmin thanks for reponding. the answer is NO as that option is greyed out. see the screenshots
=====
I am experiencing the same issue. I have PPU licensing and when I try to start the Fabric trial , I get the same error as posted.
Any solution as of today ?
No solution until now.... I tried the support and unfortunately all the steps that they suggested are the same as the Microsoft Guide.
It is frustrating ...
@Sinvaldo @You mentioned you have PPU, so you should be able to create support ticket if the given solution is not working or you. The support team should be able to help.
Thanks
