Fabric Semantic Model - Continuous X Axis Line Chart
I have a semantic model that is set up in Microsoft Fabric on top of a Warehouse. It has a Date Dimension set up and marked as a date table. Within that dimension I have set up a custom hierarchy for Year/Quarter/Month/Date. I would like to be able to create line charts that treat this date hierarchy as a continuous axis. However, I seem to be unable to do this and the result is that the line chart requires scrolling (see image).
Is there a way to configure the semantic model so that this date hierarchy is treated as continuous, regardless of the level I drill down into on the chat? Bonus if it can also be set up to automatically sort by that hierarchy (ascending) when it's added to a chart.

Use the Date on the X axis. Let the chart visual create the hierarchy for you automatically.

In Power BI/Fabric, only a date column (marked as a Date table) can be plotted on a continuous axis. If you put your custom hierarchy (Year/Quarter/Month/Date) directly on the X-axis, it will always be treated as categorical, which is why you get the scrolling.If I misunderstand your needs or you still have problems on it, please feel free to let us know.

Community Support TeamUnfortunately, when using Date field without a custom hierarchy set up Fabric Direct Lake does not support automated hierarchies. For example, if I have a line of % Reponse Rate and want to show that by Quarter that calculates across multiple dates it will not properly aggregate to the Quarter grain.
The only way to respolve this (that I've found) is to create a custom hierarchy, but then I have the issues I laid out above.
This seems like incredibly basic functionality that I should not have to work hard at to resolve. Tableau does this seemlessly.
PowerBI also does this just fine when working with a data source such as an excel or csv file directly, but it can not do it with a Fabric Direct Lake connection as far as I can tell.
Right, sorry for not catching that you are using DirectLake. I think that Microsoft had acknowledged that feature gap a while back and had mentioned they are working on lifting that limitation.
