Fabric Data Warehouse

When you create a Data Warehouse in Fabric, it is indeed created in OneLake, which is a part of the Microsoft Fabric platform. The data is stored in a format that is optimized for analytics and big data scenarios, which can include Delta files. Delta is a storage layer that brings ACID transactions to Apache Spark and big data workloads.

The Fabric Data Warehouse is not necessarily a direct replacement for SQL Server. Instead, it serves a different purpose. Fabric is designed to handle large volumes of data and complex analytics workloads, which may involve big data processing, machine learning, and data streaming. It is more aligned with modern data lakehouse patterns, which combine the benefits of data lakes and data warehouses.

In summary, the choice between a Fabric Data Warehouse and SQL Server depends on the specific needs of your data workloads.
