Fabric Capacity

Hello,

I currently have an Azure Subscription, Power BI Premium License and Office 365.  This instance is my instance that I use for my testing and learning.  This is not production.

I am not clear about Fabric Capacity.  If I am using this instance for learning and certification do I need to purchase Fabric Capacity?  What is Fabric Capacity used for?  I just wanted to get some clarity.

Fabric Capacity is a shared pool of compute that powers all capabilities in Microsoft Fabric, from data modeling and data warehousing to business intelligence and AI experiences. It is used to simplify purchasing with a single pool of compute for every workload, and to use the same set of Capacity Units (CUs) wherever you have the need without pre-allocating capacity. All CUs are pooled and are not locked in an idle workload to reduce costs.

If you are using your Azure Subscription, Power BI Premium License and Office 365 instance for learning and certification purposes, you may not need to purchase Fabric Capacity. However, if you are planning to use Microsoft Fabric for production workloads, you may need to purchase Fabric Capacity to ensure that you have sufficient compute resources to meet your needs.

Just to be clear I can create a pipeline in fabric and run the pipeline without purchasing capacity (for development where performance is not an issue)?

Yes, you can create a pipeline in Fabric and run it without purchasing capacity.

Fabric is a Capacity mode functionality, once your trial is expired you will need to purchase the capacity.
