Export to excel not working as expected

Hey experts..!!

I have been trying to export the data in excel from a matrix visual. But the data that is being fetched in the excel file is not complete. Data is being skipped randomly when it is being exported as an excel file. I have checked for any filters applied on the visual but there are'nt any.
Some additional information : I need to export it as summarized form of the data.

The data present in the visual is hierarchical data.
Suppose the hierarchies are being made under a Sr. No.
For example
Sr. No.  Set        Value
1            A             1
2            A             2
3            B             3
4            C             4

Now, the data for a particular Sr. No. is being displayed but for others it is missing in the excel sheet.
Any help is appreciated.

Hi @punitkhatri ,
I hope your data is not exceeding 1.5 Lakh rows. If it is so, Power BI will omit data post the first 1.5 Lakh rows from excel export even when you have a summarized export.

If no. of rows is the issue, the only way is to filter data and have multiple exports and then manually append into an excel.

No it is not the case @Anand24 , thankyou.

Hey @punitkhatri ,

Just to confirm, in the article Export data from a Power BI visualization - Power BI | Microsoft Learn in the Considerations and Limitations there are a number of reasons: such as the use of more than one table or the "show items with no data"  option is enabled.

That said, when exporting can you confirm that you don't have a bookmark page set or have it with slicer(s) that might be limiting it?

Hi @punitkhatri ,

Just clarifying for you - when you export with Summarized Data you get a different set of data than when you use Data with current layout.  This site better explains this:

Export data from a Power BI visualization - Power BI | Microsoft Learn

Particularly this paragraph:

  • The granularity of data exported to Excel using the Data with current layout and Summarized data options are identical and the only difference between the options is the shape of the data in Excel. For example, in a matrix visual, the Data with current layout preserves the shape of the visual as shown in Power BI when data is exported to Excel while the Summarized data option exports the same data but as a flat table of rows and columns.

Is this the issue you are experiencing?

Thankyou for replying @collinq ,
Actually this is not the issue I am experiencing, as in the given example in my post, let's say I am getting the data related to Sr.No. 3 and 4 but for the rest the data is missing. So, the format or granularity of the data is not the problem here, the problem is amount of data. I am getting data in lesser amount when I export the visual as an excel.
Please help with this. Thankyou.
