Export to PDF not displaying map data

For the last couple days, whenever I export a report to a PDF, the map visualization fails to display any data despite there being data in the Service. I don't have the option to change to a different style of map visualization. Is there a bug with the software? See the images showing before and after exporting to PDF. It seems to only affect the Service (not Desktop) where I do most of my exporting. Any help with restoring the data in the PDF from the Service is greatly appreciated.

Hi Neeko,

I'm having this exact same issue since about a week.

Is there anything I can do to resolve this?

Exporting Power BI reports to PDF and encountering issues where map visualizations fail to display data can be frustrating. Here are some steps and considerations to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

1. Verify Map Visualization Data

  • Check Data Availability: Ensure that the map visualizations have data available in the Power BI Service and that filters or slicers are correctly applied.

  • Check Map Configuration: Verify that the map visual is correctly configured and is using the right fields for location and values. Sometimes issues can arise from incorrect configuration.

2. Update and Review Software

  • Power BI Desktop: Make sure you are using the latest version of Power BI Desktop. Occasionally, updates may fix issues related to visualizations and exporting.

  • Power BI Service: Check for any recent updates or announcements from Microsoft regarding known issues or changes in the Power BI Service.

3. Exporting Issues

  • Test Different Browsers: Sometimes browser-specific issues can affect the export process. Try exporting the report from a different browser (e.g., Chrome, Edge, Firefox) to see if the issue persists.

  • Clear Cache: Clear the cache and cookies of your browser. This can resolve issues related to cached data affecting the export.

  • Export Settings: Verify if there are any settings or options that might affect the export process. Ensure that there are no export settings that are inadvertently causing issues.

4. Check for Known Issues

  • Power BI Community: Check the Power BI Community forums and support pages for any known issues related to map visualizations and exporting to PDF. Sometimes other users may have encountered and reported similar issues.

  • Microsoft Support: If the issue persists and seems to be a bug, consider reaching out to Microsoft Support for assistance. They can provide specific guidance and may be able to address the problem if it's a known bug.

5. Workaround Solutions

  • Use Power BI Desktop: As you mentioned, exporting from Power BI Desktop seems to work fine. Continue using Power BI Desktop for exporting to PDF until the issue is resolved.

  • Alternative Formats: Consider exporting the report to other formats like PowerPoint or Excel, and see if the map visualizations display correctly in those formats. This can be a temporary workaround.

6. Recreate the Report

  • Redesign Map Visuals: If feasible, try recreating the map visualizations or redesigning them in Power BI Desktop and republishing the report to see if this resolves the issue.
