Hi, Could someone please help me understand if a user with only READ access to a semantic model (granted access through the App) will have export to excel option ? I am assuming here that granting access to a person through the app automatically grants them READ access to the underlying sematic model.
Also clarifying that I am talking about Export data option that you get when we click on ellipsis on the visual header (not the analyse in Excel).
What permissions are required to export semantic data model to Excel - Current Layout and Summarised ?
The reason for me asking this is that I am able to see the export data option even when I don't have BUILD access to the semantic model. If this is a report setting and has nothing to do with having BUILD access on the semantic model, whats the point of permissions at the semantic model level? Anyone could export the data out and build their own model from excel ? What am I missing ?

Hi @Hoping ,
As you said, all users who already have Read permission for semantic models via app permissions will have the ability to export Data with current layout and Summarized data, however unable to export Underlying data.
Data with current layout and Summarized data will show users only the data(columns and measures) used in this visual, while the Underlying data contains not only the data in current visual, but also other data in the semantic model.
So only when user has App(Build) permission via app permissions can export the Underlying data, this will protect the data from being inappropriately viewed, reused, or shared with anyone other than the intended audience.

I hope my suggestions give you good ideas, if you have any more questions, please clarify in a follow-up reply.
