Export Underlying Data- how to disable but allow summary export only?

In PBI Desktop it only exports the summary data, but in the service it has the option to export Underlying Data.

This causes issues for us as we will do things like graph employee counts per deparment or staff sizes per state, etc...

Exporting at summary level is great, but with the detail export it exports the entire employee table which has personal data like birthdates, home addresses, contact info, other things that should NOT be company wide knowledge.

Is there any workaround for this or way to stop that?

Summary is great but underlying data causes us issues.

Hi @OneWithQuestion,

You could hide those columns containing personal sensitive data in desktop. After publishing to service, those hidded columns won't be shown when you export underlying data.

Hide option from column list does not hide it from exported underlying data. Is there anything else we need to do adding to original solution? Please suggest.

Thanks.

Clarification: that means that no one will be able to select those columns though right?

Just to make sure I understand:

Once hidden they do not show up on the field picker when authoring or editing reports in PowerBI, right?
