Export Data on Power BI Web is missing

I have been using the "Export Data" button on tables on my reports for over a year now. And all of them are working perfectly until a few days ago.

Suddenly, the "Export Data" button was missing on every reports and workspaces. The button should be between "Set Alert" and "Add a Comment" button, but now it is just missing completely. However, in the Power BI Desktop it is still there.

I have checked the settings on my pbix desktop, workspace, and reports. And all of them has been set correctly. I also didnt change any settings beforehand, so the problem shouldn't be on the settings part.

Is it maybe a new update by Power BI? or maybe a settings on the fabric level?

Hi @chris_sml

Check this setting first on desktop.

Uzi2019_0-1734685172366.png

Please check Report Settings in Power Bi Service to validate if the option you have marked in Desktop for exporting both types of data is still the same.

In addition, be sure you are not breaking these limitations:

  • Export using Underlying data won't work if:

    • the version is older than 2016.

    • the tables in the model don't have a unique key.

    • an administrator or report designer has disabled this feature.

  • Export using Underlying data won't work if you enable the Show items with no data option for the visualization Power BI is exporting.

Last but not least:

The problem is from the company PowerBI Service Admin ,they might have disabled this feature.
Please reach out to them, so that you will able to use again export data option.

Hi @chris_sml
Thanks for posting in the Microsoft Forum community.

For my situation, I am able to access the export data in both Power BI service and desktop versions.

However, if you are still encountering the issue, please follow the troubleshooting steps below:

The missing "Export Data" option in Power BI Web could be related to several potential causes, including updates to Power BI, tenant settings, or permissions. Here are some steps to investigate and resolve the issue:

  1. Check Tenant Settings
  • In the Power BI Admin Portal, verify if the Export Data feature is enabled.
  • Go to Admin Portal > Tenant Settings > Export Data.
  • Ensure the setting is turned on and applies to the correct security groups or users.
  • If you do not have admin access, contact your Power BI administrator to check this for you.
  1. Workspace and Report Permissions
  • Ensure you have the necessary permissions to export data from the reports or workspaces.
  • If you recently switched workspaces or reports, double-check the access level (e.g., Viewer, Contributor).
  1. Recent Power BI Updates
  • Microsoft frequently rolls out updates. It's possible that this is a change in the Power BI Web interface or functionality.
  • Check the Power BI release notes for any updates related to the "Export Data" feature.
  1. Browser Cache and Compatibility
  • Clear your browser cache and cookies.
  • Try accessing Power BI in a different browser or in incognito mode to rule out browser-related issues.
  1. Check Dataset-Level Settings
  • Open your dataset in Power BI Desktop and verify that Export Data is enabled in the report settings.
  • File > Options and Settings > Options > Current File > Report Settings > Export Data.
      Microsoft Fabric Settings
  • As a Microsoft Fabric user, confirm that no restrictions are applied at the Fabric level that could limit export capabilities.

If this helps, then please Accept it as a solution and dropping a "Kudos" so other members can find it more easily.

Hope this works for you!

Thanks.
